Cuatro Ciénegas is 320 km and 3.5 hours from Monterrey — close enough for a weekend trip, far enough that organizing it yourself requires real planning. Our tours are designed to take you to the best places at the best time, without dealing with maps, tickets, or decisions about where to go.

1-Day Tour: What’s Included

The full-day tour is the most popular option. It departs early from Monterrey to maximize time at the destination.

Typical itinerary:

  • 6:00 am — Departure from Monterrey (door-to-door pickup or meeting point)
  • 9:30 am — Arrival, reserve briefing
  • 10:00 am – 1:00 pmRío Los Mezquites: swimming, endemic turtles, aquatic wildlife
  • 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm — Lunch in town (on your own: cabrito, machaca, regional cuisine)
  • 2:30 pm – 4:30 pmPoza Azul or Marble Mines
  • 5:00 pm – 7:00 pmGypsum Dunes at sunset — the visual highlight
  • 7:30 pm — Departure back to Monterrey
  • ~11:00 pm — Arrival back in Monterrey

Everything included:

  • Executive transport (A/C, USB charging, reclining seats)
  • Door-to-door pickup within Monterrey metro area
  • CONANP-certified guide throughout the visit
  • All attraction entry fees
  • Biodegradable sunscreen (conventional is prohibited in the lagoons)
  • Travel insurance

Not included: Meals (group eats together, each pays their own), personal expenses, optional guide tip.

2-Day Tour: What’s Included

The two-day tour is the complete Cuatro Ciénegas experience. It includes overnight accommodation in the town and allows you to visit all the main attractions without rushing.

Day 1: Río Los Mezquites (full morning) + lunch + Gypsum Dunes at sunset
Day 2: Poza Azul + Marble Mines + Las Playitas + nighttime stargazing dinner

Everything from the 1-day tour, plus: hotel accommodation (double or single room), regional breakfast on day 2, and the stargazing dinner at Las Playitas.

Why Take a Tour Instead of Going Independently?

Driving yourself is perfectly viable — the roads are good and signage is clear. But there are concrete advantages to organized tours:

The certified guide transforms the experience. The Biosphere Reserve has specific rules about access, behavior around endemic wildlife, and restricted zones. A CONANP-certified guide maximizes what you see and ensures you do it responsibly. Understanding exactly what you’re looking at in Poza Azul is a completely different experience from just swimming in a pretty blue pool.

The timing matters more than you’d expect. Arriving at the Gypsum Dunes at midday vs. sunset is the difference between flat photos and spectacular ones. The itinerary is designed with this in mind: every location is visited at its optimal moment.

For groups, it’s often cheaper. Splitting transport costs between 8–16 people frequently makes the tour less expensive per person than renting multiple cars and paying separately for gas, tolls, and entrance fees.

Departure Schedule

Shared tours depart every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) year-round. Private tours can be scheduled any day of the week with at least 5 days’ notice.

High-demand periods: Easter week, July–August, and December. Book 3–4 weeks ahead during these dates.

"We didn't have to worry about anything. The guide knew everything about the reserve, the stops were perfectly timed, and we arrived at the dunes right at sunset. Best weekend of the year."
