Plaza Principal
The heart of Mexico's Magical Town. Colonial architecture, a historic bandstand, and the best artisan ice cream in northern Mexico. An evening walk here is essential.
Where the desert
has the soul of a town
At the exact center of the Magical Town of Cuatro Ciénegas, the Plaza Principal is where every road converges. Framed by colonial architecture — arcaded portals, the twin towers of the San Felipe Neri church, a wrought-iron bandstand — it is the space where the community truly lives: every afternoon, locals walk, children play, and the scent of artisan ice cream mingles with the desert air.
Visiting the plaza is not an afterthought — it is essential to understanding the destination. The springs and dunes are the natural spectacle; the plaza is the human context that makes Cuatro Ciénegas a Magical Town and not merely a nature park.
We drive you here
We handle the road. We pick you up in Monterrey, at Monterrey International Airport or in Saltillo and drive you to Cuatro Ciénegas in a private vehicle, round trip or one way. You choose the day and the departure time.
Your visit to the Main Square is yours to plan: entrance fees are paid directly on site and guided tours are arranged locally with the on-site operators. We only do the transfer — no imposed itinerary and no sharing the vehicle with strangers.

San Felipe Neri Church
Built in 1735, its twin pink stone towers are the most photographed image of the Magical Town. Inside, carved altarpieces and colonial art from three centuries.
Historic Bandstand
19th-century wrought iron Victorian bandstand. The social center of the plaza where generations have walked. On weekend evenings, local groups still perform.
Artisan Ice Cream
Ice cream carts and stands surrounding the bandstand are a local institution. Native flavors — corn, mezquite, nopal, guava — that you won't find anywhere else.
Colonial Portals
The arcaded portals surrounding the plaza house regional restaurants, crafts stores, and local cafés. A cool corridor perfect for browsing and eating during the hot afternoon hours.
Desert Sunset from the Plaza
From the south side of the plaza, the sunset over the Coahuilan sierra turns orange and pink. At 6pm in winter or 7pm in summer, this is a moment not to miss.
Gastronomy of Cuatro Ciénegas
The restaurants surrounding the plaza are the best introduction to Coahuilan cuisine. These are the dishes and products to seek out:
The plaza belongs on every itinerary
